KATHMANDU: Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has faced flak for violating the election code of behavior with enticing votes for a candidate, even contesting the National Assembly by-election, through the holiday period. The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday shortly cited in a media statement which Oli violated the election code of behavior by requesting vote Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, a candidate to the National Assembly by-election at Bagmati being held Thursday. The EC also has warned of legal actions against people hammering the election code of behavior, myRepublica.com documented. The EC stated that despite its caution, some individuals were issuing statements in breach of the election code of behaviour. Some media outlets also have violated the survey code by casting the winner and recalling individuals, the EC stated. The survey panel cautioned that it may take action against institutions and individuals such as violating the survey code. Oli, the Chairman of all CPN-UML, in his own charm had requested electorates to vote Thapa, stating his success would increase the movement. Oli said party agents, who’d accepted the oath to protect the party’s curiosity, but shouldn’t vote for anybody besides Thapa. Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress (NC) and also the CPN-Maoist Centre also have condemned Oli for agreeing votes for Thapa through the quiet period (three times prior to the election) and also have encouraged that the EC to do . Throughout the silence interval, no busy campaigning for those candidates is permitted. NC Chief Whip Balkrishan Khand told media persons after the NC Parliamentary Party Working Committee meeting that the EC should penalize those responsible for breaking up the survey code, however strong that individual may be, Kathmandu Post reported. CPN-MC Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal also issued a media release condemning the prime minister’s allure. He explained that the appeal delivered by the prime minister during the quiet period not just violated the survey code but also raised concerns about the equity of this by-election. The by-election has been held since Thapa has been expelled as a lawmaker in the National Assembly to a criticism by CPN-MC. The CPN-MC had whined to the Parliament Secretariat which Thapa had defected to UML following the nullification of their unification involving the CPN-MC along with UML.
