Vadodara: While homes made for sparrow – which has become a rare sight in most cities – distributed and installed regularly, for the first detail has been collected about bird use and even breed in it.
Longukik in many cases has grown into birds and occupies other homes.
Efforts to distribute sparrow houses began by Indian stars last year.
This organization encourages people to join the initiative and also give them homes, feeders, feed bags for sparrow.
Architect Tanuj Desai who started the project said that in addition to members, organizations have also provided sparrow homes and other materials in 53 public areas or offices.
These include police stations, city corporate facilities and other places.
“We have more than 400 members now and around 450 kits, with 22 items including homes and feeders, have been installed so far.
An additional 1,000 carton houses distributed on World Sparrow Day,” he said.
Desai told that 166 Longukik was born in homes installed by the organization.
“They occupy other homes or fly,” Desai said.
More than 370 houses already have a sparrow nesting in it.
Ajay Patel, a businessman who has installed four artificial homes, said that two of them were occupied by sparrows.
“Two hatchlings were born in one of the houses.
They grow and fly away.
Other small birds also start eating from feeders,” he said.
For many people, sparrow houses and feeders bring back memories of childhood.
“As children, we have seen a sparrow even on the pillar of Ghadiyyali and used to give them eating and other birds.
We now live in Diwalipura.
While our sparrow bird house has not been occupied, some small birds come to eat from feeders,” said Pragnesh Shah, financial investment consultant.
