Trichy: As a Cauvery Bridge, one of the landmarks of Trichy City has been aged and weakened for years, the state highway department has proposed to form an alternative bridge to connect Srirangam Island with the mainland trichy.
The Minister of Administration K.
Nehru on Sunday confirmed that the new bridge will be built across the Cauvery River.
“The previous government by taking maintenance work that often damages the existing bridge structure.
The DPR will be sought for a new bridge as an alternative,” Minister said.
A preliminary study conducted by the Highways Department was handed over to the State Government, further detailed project reports for new bridges which tended to cost around RS 80 Crore must be prepared.
Official sources say that the new bridge as a replacement was proposed on the upstream side (okayasampetta end) where there was a feasibility for land acquisition to make a way of approach.
