Chennai: Fresh Covid-19 cases continued to fall for the second day in a row on Monday, but active cases and death continued to increase in Tamil Nadu.
The state reported 30,215 new cases and 46 deaths; Active cases rose to 2.06 lakh.
Of the 46 people who died, 36 were above the age of 60 with comorbidity.
The average weekly weekly daily death on January 17 is now around 36.
Chennai has 6292 new cases, the highest in the country, followed by Coimbatore (3786), followed by Chengalpet (1742) and Tiruppur (1504).
Four other districts Kanyakumari (1236), Erode (1199), Thanjavur (1117) and Salem (1089) reported cases in four digits, while Krishnagiri reported 983 new cases.
“The growth rate of infection slows down throughout the state,” said Health Minister J Radhakrishnan.
Epidemiology said the increase in death after falling in the expected fresh case.
