BHUBANESWAR: With 6,118 new infections being detected on Monday, the state’s single-day Covid count has come down to less than half of its peak of 12,852 cases, attained two weeks ago on May 23.
The death toll has touched 3,035.
The comparatively fewer cases from among the 67,178 samples have also brought down the test positivity rate (TPR) to below 10%.
The state had reported its highest TPR of 24.09% on on May 7.
Exactly a month later, it has come down to 9.10%, a significant fall amid the recent spurt of cases in the coastal districts.
For the first time in more than two months.
Khurda has slipped to the third spot with less than 500 cases (495), while Cuttack has surged ahead in the infection count with 640 cases.
The small coastal district of Jajpur, which until now was reporting few cases, has taken the second spot with 563 infections.
The coastal region con-tinues to remain the worst-hit from eight districts, including Khurda, accounting for 2700 cases.
The 10 western districts have together reported 1300 cases with Nuapada, close to the Chhattisgarh capital Raipur, seeing 36.
Ajay Parida, director, Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) said, “The state is witnessing a consistent fall in the daily Covid count, but people shouldn’t get complacent.
We still have a long way to go.
The Covid-appropriate behaviour of people, lockdown, surveillance and vaccination — all these factors — have together helped the western pockets contain the spread of the infection.
The coastal belts, too.
will see a dip soon.”
