Hubballi: Hubballi Airport is now equipped with a follow-up system for fluent and safe flights with commissioning new landing systems that are widely awaited (ILS).
The new system was operational on Thursday.
With ILS, flights can make easy and safe landings even in bad weather and low visibility.
Hubballi’s is the first airport in North Karnataka to have this sophisticated equipment for around Rs 6.5 Crore.
Hubbalcali Airport Director Pramod Kumar Thakre said as part of an increase in air navigation service infrastructure, Indian airport authorities had assigned the performance category of the facilities – I was there.
Commissioning ILS will help in the precision approach to landing aircraft at the airport, thereby increasing flight regularity during bad weather and low visibility conditions.
ILS was tested in February.
It should be operational in June, but delayed due to pandemic and technical barriers.
“It was assigned and made operational from August 12 after various trials went on and approval,” he added.
Because of the absence of ILS, several flights must be transferred to other nearby airports when they face problems when landing due to poor visibility after cloudy weather.
He said passenger movements slowly took at the airport, and more routes were being introduced.
“Now, Star Air, Indigo and Air India operates flights to various destinations, including Hindon, Bengaluru, Tirupati, Goa, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai, Kannur and Hyderabad.
Indigo can start operations to Ahmedabad next month, while Air India is likely to continue The operation to Mumbai and Bengaluru, “he said.
How it works ILS ILS is the Help of Precision of ICAO (International Aviation International) which is used to provide azimuth and accurate descent guide signals for aircraft landing under any weather conditions.
An ILS consists of two main sub-systems – local and glide lines systems – which provide lateral and vertical guides, for landings.
DMA gauge (DME), which is placed with a sled or marker, is also installed to provide a distance from the touchdown on the runway to the landing point.
With ILS, lateral and vertical guides are provided.
