Nagpur: In the second series of genome sequencing, CSIR-NEEI environmental virological cells have found the Cent Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) in 73 SARS-COV-2 samples selected randomly from various parts of the Nagpur between January 7 and 10.
Results of sequencing Salt-based genomes are handed over to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday.
This shows that Omicron has been the dominant variant in the city in the second week of January.
As of December, Delta remained dominant variant after being detected in January 2021 in this district.
Omicron in a percentage is less even until December.
The first Omicron patient of the city – a foreign traveler – confirmed on December 12.
Cell neeri has found 96% of omicron variants in nagpur samples collected for the first study series between January 1 and 6 after arranging the first genome sequencer of Vidarbha.
The Neei genome sequencing facility has processed 126 samples from January 1 to 10.
The latest results are sent within a half days.
Sequencing the overall tiring genome, time consuming, boring and expensive to do.
Because the district reported high Covid cases, only a strong positive sample was taken for genome supervision studies.
NMC has provided samples collected in different centers to measure the spread of omicron.
Among the 53 samples learned from 1 to 6 January this year, one Covid patient has a history of foreign trips.
Dr.
Krishna Khairnar, Head of the Environmental Virology cell, said that none of the 73 positive covid patients had international travel history.
“Sequencing is underway for more samples.
Residents should not be satisfied now.
We must be vigilant.
We are unable to reduce our guards assuming Omicron now there is everywhere.
Delta is detected and informed to the authorities and then causes the second wave Massive.
The same way, we told the authorities about Omicron’s status, “said Dr.
Khairnar.
Dr.
Khairnar said the sequencing helped in spotting if there was a new variant that appeared or the existing variant was strengthening.
“The variant continues to change.
Sequencing genomes are our tool to monitor the SARS-COV-2 variant by Genotipic Surpelliance,” he said.
NMC has also sent samples to study to other scientific institutions in this country according to the guidelines since August, NMC has requested neeri to carry out genome sequencing on all daily positive samples because of the case of less than 10.
Neer in collaboration with CCMB, has done a genome sequencing at 900 Samples between October 2020 and December 2021.
