Idukki: When government orders seek a vaccination certificate to enter shops and banks withdrawal flak from all angles, orders have helped ethical and health officials to overcome vaccine reluctance among tribal communities in the district.
According to the tribal department official, Tribeseople in settlement Vellakkalkudi and Puthukkudi in the Chinnar wildlife reserve refused to take a vaccine even after repeatedly serving by officials.
But after the government makes it obliged to have a vaccination certificate or negative RT-PCR certificate to enter the store or bank, they show willingness to be investigated, officials said.
The Marayoor v tribal officer V Suresh Kumar said that many Tribecuctur in Vellakkalkudi and Puthukkudi called them and said that they were ready to take a vaccine.
“Officials visit settlements and provide vaccines to them.
In the first phase, 76 people from Puthukkudy and 36 of Vellakkalkudy received the first dose,” the official said.
Tribal Development Officers Adimali Anil Bhaskar said that the tribal community had been told that without taking vaccines they could not enter shops or banks.
“Some banks and stores have been looking for detailed vaccination from some of them and they have realized the need to undergo vaccination,” said Bhaskar.
“At present more than 46% of Tribesel in the elementary age group in the district has received the first dose.
While 20,371 people received the first dose, 2,897 got a second shot,” he said.
