Coimbatore: The fresh restrictions of Covid-19 have forced the organizers to postpone Coimbatore Vizha, the annual spirit celebration of the region scheduled to be held since Sunday.
“Based on current guidelines by the government and discussions with district administration, the 14th edition of Coimbatore Vizha which will be held between January 2 and 9 has been postponed,” said the committee that was posted on social media.
“Coimbatore Vizha is always about a responsible celebration and we have made this decision considering the times of turbulent today,” he said.
A member of the organizing team said they had held a meeting with the District Administrative Officer on Saturday.
“We were told about the increasing number of Covid cases and state government decisions to impose more stringent restrictions at public meetings.
Furthermore, the decision to postpone the celebration was taken.” Vizha was organized by a group of organizations led by the district of the young Indian Chapter.
The organizer has planned a water screen, sound, and light performance titled “Symphony by the Lake” in Valankulam as part of Vizha this year.
The committee said they had not decided on the new date.
“The new schedule will depend on the Covid situation and Government Regulation,” said members of the organizing team.
