Kathmandu: New Prime Minister Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba won the voice of confidence in the parliament on Sunday, the days after the Supreme Court returned the legislature dissolved in May May.
The 75-year-old player, who has held the office four times before, won 165 votes – exceeding 136 needed – with 83 votes against him, said Parliamentary Speaker Agni Sapkota.
Deuba faced the direct assignment of the procurement of vaccines and controlling the spread of Covid, which according to the government had infected 6.67.109 people and killed 9,550.
Less than 4% of the 30 million people in the country have been fully vaccinated.
“Covid fighting will be the first priority of the new government,” Deuba said in parliament.
PM Narendra Modi congratulated Deuba about his success.
“Warm greetings for a successful term.
I hope to work with you to further enhance our unique partnerships in all sectors, and strengthen the bonds of our people-to-people,” he tweeted.
