Kolkata: With the number of Covid cases that quickly wavy in Bengal, the State Health Department has issued a new treatment protocol that officials believe will make Covid care more effectively.
New guidelines also include two new therapies / drugs – cocktails of monoclonal antibodies and molnupiravir – for patients at risk without symptomatic and high and symptomatic patients with certain co-morbidity to prevent severe infectious diseases.
“Monoclonal antibody cocktails, no doubt are very effective in preventing hospitalization.
We have used it in about 70 patients and feel more effective in the elderly with co-morbidities than younger patients without co-morbidity,” said Pulmonologist Raja Dhar from CMRI.
Other doctors in the city, who have used monoclonal antibody cocktails, are also guaranteed for this cocktail therapy which is a mixture of two drugs – Casirimivab and IMDEVIMAB.
The Ministry of Health has also used around 300 bottles in patients, including around 40 in ID & BG hospitals managed by the government, and feel effective.
But the new protocol from the Ministry of Health has a driver who says cocktails are not too effective against Omicron.
This guideline has determined a different protocol for three infected categories – without symptoms, symptomatic with certain co-morbidity and patients infected with symptoms with certain clinical conditions that are released from co-morbid conditions.
“We capture the number of patients who need care will arise.
That is why the care and care protocol has been released in advance,” said a senior health official.
In addition to drugs, doses and categories of patients who have to get these drugs, the protocol also prescribes how to categorize patients for each category, how to monitor them and mention the warning of the red flag, the type of oxygen therapy depends on certain markers, investigative tests and other therapies .
