Gurgaon: The water radiated to the new U-Round Underpass built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) near the Ambience Mall at the Delhi-Gurgaon border after Wednesday morning.
This will delay the inauguration of many-awaited underpasses, which are now expected to be opened for traffic on August 15.
Officials said since underpasses were still under construction, floods were caused by water seeping in several places, not a drainage problem.
Working on an underpass is almost 99% complete.
According to the highway authority, the contractor focuses on the current desilting and end jobs at underpasses, such as black topping stretching, painting and installing signage boards, it will be done only after the rain stops.
“We are very confident that underpasses must be opened on August 15.
We have done the laying of the slab on July 22 and it took at least two weeks to slab to get strength.
After that, we have to do some of the last final jobs that will not take more than a few.
Day, “said Nhai official to Ti.
Underpass completion has been postponed more than a year now.
Earlier this month, Nhai said the underpass would be completed on July 31.
The delay in the gas pipeline shift, followed by waterlogging Wednesday, however, has forced to once again push the time limit.
The overall project, including rearrangement of traffic transfer and the recovery of toll gate which is shifted to build the underpass box structure, will take an additional two weeks.
“Underpasses will be opened on August 15 and work to restore the toll road and the black-topping stretch will take an additional 10-15 days.
In total, this project will be completed at the end of August,” the official added.
The Ambience Mall Underpass is part of a project that aims not only describes Delhi-Gurgaon’s freeway, but also helps commuting to the mall without crossing the Delhi-Gurgaon border near Sirhaul Toll Plaza.
The first part of this project was Shankar Chowk Flyover, which was opened for last year’s traffic.
However, working on underpasses, has been lagging behind due to the delay in the shift of three toll gates and other utilities.
TII previously reported that even after a year of follow-up repeatedly with the South Delhi Municipal corporation (SDMC), the Civic body had failed to entertain Nhai’s request to shift the toll gate.
It was only in January that SDMC submitted a cost estimate for transferring toll.
