WASHINGTON: The organizer on Wednesday canceled the New York auto show that had been set for the end of this month amid increasing Covid-19 cases caused by a more transmitted Delta variant of Coronavirus in the midst of rethinking the return schedule to the office.
The 10-day public exhibition and Preview Press has been set for August 19, usually attract thousands of journalists from all over the world and more than 1 million ticket buyers.
The shooting of the show, which had been postponed from the beginning of April 2021, was announced in June with a large fanfare by state and city officials as a sign of “significant progress in vaccination and sustainable reduction in Covid-19 inpatient cases and hospitalization.” The organizer said on Wednesday the show had been “canceled due to the growth of the Delta Covid-19 variant incident and increased the steps announced recently by state and local officials to stop the spread.” This event, which took place at the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, was last held in April 2019 and is usually used to uncover new vehicles by large car makers.
Thousands of prospective car buyers use automatic events to help make purchasing decisions.
The 2020 show was canceled in time when the Javits center was being used at that time as a Make-Shift hospital.
The committee plans to hold a new New York Auto event April 2022.
This show usually produces more than $ 300 million to the regional economy, the organizers said.
