New York: The Mayor of Eric Adams is considering allowing the nation’s biggest school district to return to several forms of virtual instructions as the city of Weathers wave Coronavirus case, reversal of his promise at school.
Adams said at a press conference on Thursday that he still believed the safest place for children was in school, “but we must be honest that there are a large number of children, for any reason, parents do not take them to school.” Attendance level Since students return from winter holidays lower than usual, with anywhere from a quarter to a third of students do not appear until the class almost every day.
On Wednesday, the presence in all districts was 76%, according to the number of department of city education.
In a district of almost one million students, it means that around 220,000 are schools that are sick or missing.
More than 100 schools reported attendance of less than 60%, and more than 50 reported less than half of all students attending class Wednesday.
After peaking the first week in January, the average number of new cases in New York City has declined slightly in the past few days, raising some expectations among officials that omicron tides tide.
Adams, a Democrat who served in the first year, has taken a bullish attitude towards a pandemic, urging residents of New York to take precautions and get vaccinations but did not let Covid-19 control their lives.
He also repeatedly said the city was unable to pay more business or school shutdown.
Michael Mulgrew, President of the Federation of UNiah Teachers who represent Kota Public School teachers, has asked the mayor to postpone learning directly because Adams served.
Adams said on Thursday that he had worked with Mulgrew and was willing to entertain long-distance learning while during that time was “quality option.” “But my goal: I want children at school,” Adams said.
The mayor emphasized that the city would not see such disputes in Chicago, where the third largest school district in the country canceled five days of class due to disagreement with the teacher Union on the Covid-19 safety protocol.
“This is not Chicago,” Adams said.
“We can finish this.
We can pass this crisis and we will find the right way to educate our children in a very safe environment.” He does not offer details about what looks like a long distance.
The remaining messages with the teacher Union and the City Education Department were not immediately returned.
The city school system was one of the first returns to In-people after a hit pandemic in 2020 and schools closed in March for the rest of the year.
They started a hybrid plan in the fall of 2020, with most students at school a few days a week and at home learning online all the time.
New York City students returned to in-people’s full-time autumn instructions.
