Wellington: New Zealand hopes to provide a record of 100,000 covid-19 vaccine doses in one day during the mass immunization drive on October 16, said Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, because he tried to accelerate restrictions in Auckland.
Ardern on Tuesday urged the country’s population more than 12 years “to roll the arm for New Zealand and help make us (one) the most vaccinated and hence protected in the world”.
About 2.44 million, or 58% of the population of more than 12, has been fully vaccinated so far.
“Nothing stops us besides people (no) appear,” Ardern said during a media briefing in Wellington.
New Zealand, which is mostly viral free for most pandemics until the Delta outbreak in mid-August, has recorded 4,345 cases confirmed as a whole and 28 deaths.
It reported 43 cases of Covid-19 obtained locally locally on Tuesday, with most of them in the largest city in Auckland, up from 35 days earlier.
1.7 million Auckland residents entered locking in mid-August in an effort to extinguish the Delta outbreak.
Some sidewalks subsided last week including leaving home to connect with loved ones outdoors, with a limit of 10 people, and went to the beach and park.
