LONDON: New Zealand’s Devon Conway became only the seventh batsman in Test cricket’s 144-year background to earn a double century on debut with a score of just 200 from England at Lord’s on Thursday.
Even the South Africa-born opener’s first marathon campaign of over nine-and-a-half hours has been the basis of New Zealand’s first-innings full of 378.
Conway was sight of being the first player to bat during their own first Test-match innings earlier, with just last guy Neil Wagner for business, he had been run out after dinner on the second evening of the two-match series.
But he’d still joined a private clubwith Mathew Sinclair the other Black Caps batsman to get produced a double century in his Test stunt.
Left-hander Conway had broken the record for the greatest innings with a batsman producing their livelihood Test debut at Lord’s if, on Wednesdayhe conquered the 131 produced by India’s Souray Ganguly at 1996.
