NGOs offer to provide vans that catch dogs to BMC

Mumbai: BMC can save RS 1 Crore which will be spent buying four new dog capture vans as NGOs have offered to give them to them.
NGO officials, youth organizations in animal defense (Yoda) met Commissioner Iqbal Chahal City on Tuesday and submit a proposal to provide a dog van for BMC.
BMC has moved a proposal to buy four special dog vans to catch wild dogs in the city.
BMC will spend RS 1 Crore to buy four vans.
BMC officials said that at present, the BMC health department captures wild dogs and makes them sterilized with the help of NGOs and animal welfare organizations.
The proposal to buy a new Crore RS 1 dog van is placed in front of the Standing Civic Committee.
“We met BMC’s head along with Yoda’s Priya Agarwal Hebbar and Akarsh Hebbar and offered to give a free van.
Yoda has worked for animal well-being since 2010.
Yoda will support BMC with certified veterinary surgeons, vehicles, trained captors, The trained staff team, all the equipment needed, including surgical equipment, cellular tents, ensures the maximum success of the BMC sterilization campaign, “Shiv Sena said the Rahul Canal official.
Canal said that Chahal had asked BMC to check Yoda’s proposal.
“BMC will also save money and sterilizing stories of stories can be done more effectively with Yoda’s support,” said the canal who also runs I Love Mumbai Foundation.
According to BMC officials, 85,000 dog bites are reported in Mumbai every year.
In accordance with the 2014 dog census, there were 95,174 dogs in Mumbai and 25,935 were not sterilized.
“Dogs that are not inserted can give birth at least four puppies per year.
So the number of wild dogs has risen.
There may be around 2.96 lakh wild dogs in Mumbai now,” said an official.
Canal said that from January 2022, Yoda would support the BMC mission to sterilize free roaming dogs and cats in Mumbai.
All processes will be followed according to the updated animal birth control rules (2010).
“The existing vans have become old and their lives have expired.
Van will be disabled.
So four new dog vans will be purchased.
Every day hundreds of people are bitten by wild dogs and in some areas, wild dogs are a real threat.
So the new van will help Catch and sterilize dogs, “said an official.
