Letter: On the World Rabies Day, efforts are made not only to keep humans safe from deadly viruses but also wild dogs.
The Quality NGO team environment based in the city (PTE) vaccinates wild dogs to make them free from rabies so they do not continue the virus to humans.
Every year, PTE vaccinates around 7,000 wild dogs they have saved or treated.
Apart from these dogs, almost 1,500 fangs are vaccinated by visiting certain areas.
On Tuesday, wild dogs in Dumas were vaccinated.
“We identify the area to carry out vaccinations with some local support.
At present, we vaccinate 8,500 dogs every year and we try to increase the number to 10,000,” Darshan Desai, Volunteers Pte.
A pamphlet to create awareness about dog behavior and steps that must be taken regarding wild dogs has been prepared and distributed.
“We distribute pamphlets in schools, housing communities, and through social media platforms.
Along with vaccination and awareness, we work for dog sterilization,” Desai added.
“Sterilizing vaccination and sterilization drives is being carried out so that we can control rabies.
If rabies are removed, atrocities against dogs will also decrease,” Desai said.
