Ranchi: In the first hard action against environmental pollution in Jharkhand, National Green Tribunal (NGT) has slapped the penalty each of Rs 10,000 in two senior officials from the Jharkhand state pollution control agency (JPCB).
While slapping a fine, NGT calls JPCB officials as “incompetent” or not aware of what actions must be taken to curb the abuse of the environment in the Damodar River due to coal operations by Piparwar (CCL) at Piparwar regions in the Chatra district since many years.
Tribunal said a good amount must be stored with its registrants within one week and direct JPCB to submit new actions taken within four weeks.
NGT took action after several hearing rounds on the request submitted by an activist Damodar Bachao Andolan (DMA) and Resident Khelari, Sanjay Chauhan, in June last year.
Chauhan looking for tribunal intervention that said CCL was carrying out mining activities that violated the norms of environmentalized environments.
On December 8, the East Zone bench NGT found an error in the actions taken by the report delivered by JPCB and penalty imposed on JSPCB regional officers r n Kashyap and Sumit Kumar Jha’s environmental environment.
A copy of the NGT order uploaded on its website on Saturday.
After the Chauhan petition, NGT formed a special committee consisting of various experts for field visits.
The committee conducted a broad three-day tour in September last year and submitted a report.
In August this year, the state pollution supervisor submitted Affidavit against a report with a report taken.
But the court found several anomalies in the report.
