NGT issues a notification of green nod to assess in the DU area

New Delhi: National Green Tribunal (NGT) has published notifications to the center and private builders, seeking their responses to a challenging application of environmental permits (EC) for group 38-storey housing projects built in Delhi University region, close to the Vishwavidyalaya Metro station.
The request states that this project can seriously endanger the environment in the area, which includes air quality, traffic management, water availability, and waste disposal.
A bench led by NGT Chairman of Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel issued a notice to the Ministry of Environment and Forests, young Builders of Private Limited and other parties, looking for their response in a month.
“Because this court must conduct an appropriate review of EC’s decision, it is necessary to place the affected parties to pay attention and call notes,” Bench said.
Private builders from the housing community adjacent to the University of Delhi’s campus previously told the green bench that they would apply for fresh environmental permits for the project, adding that the EC they obtained would not be followed up.
DU also challenged EC grants in the past, stating that it was a violation of Delhi Master Plan 2021 and would damage the area.
Group housing projects will have a built-up area of 1,37,879.64 square meters and involve the construction of more than 38 floors and 446 flats around the university.
Last year, the independent committee appointed by NGT has provided a green signal for a housing project, stating that while it does lead to a significant increase in the population density of fell wards, it will not have an impact on land water tables or causing significant impacts in terms of air pollution.
