Guwahati: National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has announced that a 2,000 MW substitute hydroelectric project that is lower along the Pradesh Assam-Arunachal border will start operating next year in August.
This is the largest hydroctual project that is being built in this country with an annual electricity generation capacity of 7421.59 million units (MU).
Opposing the protest launched by various organizations, including all Assam students’ unification, to stop the construction of the Mega Dam along the border zone between countries actively actively, NHPC officials said that eight dam units would operate on August 2023.
CMD NHPC, Ak Singh, convinced the standing parliamentary committee that visited energy (2021-22) on Tuesday that the main component of the project would be ready in time so that two units (500 MW) from the project were assigned in August.
2022 and dams are dedicated to the nation according to schedule.
The Parliamentary Committee, chaired by Rajiv Ranjan, visited the project on Tuesday and later, NHPC, in a statement on Wednesday said the committee appreciated the work team’s work and the progress achieved so far.
Project Executive Director, Vipin Gupta, provides a committee on uninterrupted construction activities carried out to complete the project despite the difficulties faced because of Covid-19 and congestion associated with flash floods.
The project triggers political storms and has been a problem in every election in the state since 2011.
The opposition parties have cornered the ruling government, citing threats to life and property in the acid downstream area.
Construction has stopped in 2011 after massive protests.
According to the NHPC source, due to prolonged delay, the project costs increased to around RS 20,000 Crore from the previous estimate of Rs 6,900 Crore.
Working on the project was continued on October 15, 2019, following the recommendations of the National Green Tribunal.
NHPC said large corrective measures, as indicated by NGT, has been done to overcome fears about river bank erosion in the downstream area.
This project is the first cascade dam in Subansiri.
As per NHPC, especially for hydropower with flood pillows and is designed for moderate flooding with integrated operations of the proposed medium and upper projects.
