NHRC calls for student suicide reports in Telangana

Hyderabad: Expressing serious concerns over suicidal from intermediary students in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been looking for detailed reports from the two governments about the causes that cause suicide and also the steps of improvement taken to prevent it.
NHRC bench warns of penalties on two major secretaries under the protection section of human rights law if they fail to respond.
The NHRC bench was hearing the petition submitted by K Sravan Kumar, an advocate from Telangana, currently practicing at the Supreme Court.
While 426 students took life in Telangana in 2019, 383 suicide students were reported from neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
The numbers for 2020 are not available because of the lock, the bench said.
NHRC, in the order (August 13, 2021), said: “Apart from several steps taken by the authorities, suicide of students continues.
Maybe, strategy changes are clock needs.” “Consult experts in the field of education and psychology for Identify weak links and effective strategies to overcome this problem.
” The Commission asked the state to submit an initial report within six weeks.
“The phenomenon of suicide by students is not limited to AP or Telangana only, but also rampant in other countries too.
There is a need to exchange ideas to employ scientific and professional methods in the overall education system holistically to maintain young life for full bloom, “He said.
Needless to say, in the rat race for higher qualifications, higher payment packages and higher living standards, students, parents, community teaching communities as a whole ignore the advantages and value of human life, NHRC said.
According to Sravan Kumar, the majority of students studying in private universities face extreme pressure.
Untrained teaching staff, lack of counseling and hostels without the basic facility of their problems, he said.
While the AP took steps such as applying the recommendation of Professor Neerada Reddy and D Chakrapani by preparing the monitoring committee, ethics committee, etc., at each college and by punishing universities where suicidal was reported, Telangana formed a wise committee and conducted a surprise examination at University.
