NHRC is looking for a report from the Odisha Chief Secretary, DGP about crime against women

Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Secretary of the Odisha Head to look into the case of compensation for rape victims from Malkangiri District and detailed steps taken by the state to examine, control and prevent deployment crime against women within six weeks.
The commission passed the order on June 29 after hearing the petition submitted by the Human Rights lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy on August 14, 2017.
He has accused that a tribal woman was raped on the roadside in the extensive daylight in the Malkangiri District in August 9, 2017 Revealed after the video incident became a viral on social media.
He said the woman fell unconscious on the roadside while returning from the market.
A tribal man has committed a crime in full public glare.
“There is no compensation paid to victims and videos of vile actions have not been stopped from circulating by the government,” the Petitioner said in his prayer.
After the commission intervention, police supervisor, Malkangiri has submitted a report in this regard on July 11, 2018.
The report revealed that the cost sheet has been submitted in two cases (rape and creating viral videos).
Both cases are waiting for trials in court.
But there is no compensation paid to the victim.
The Commission has directed Malkangiri District Judges to provide adequate legal assistance, the right psychological counseling to rape the survivors and submit reports in this matter.
On September 16 last year, collectors had taken proactive action to stop the spread of video incidents.
“Furthermore, there are no recommendations with trials made for compensation to victims and victims and family members have asked the same,” the report said.
Then the Commission has directed the complainant to submit his comments, if there is within four weeks.
When the commission did not receive comments from the complainant, it has closed the case on April 29.
Meanwhile, the applicant has submitted his comments on June 5 and asked to reopen the case.
The Commission has considered the reports and submission of the Petitioner and the head of the directed secretary and DGP, Odisha to look into this issue and compensation can be given to rape victims according to the Odisha victim compensation scheme.
It also wants to know what steps have been taken by the state government to examine, control and prevent the spread of crime against women.
(The identity of the victim has not been revealed to protect its privacy according to the direction of the Supreme Court about cases related to sexual violence)
