Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been looking for an updated investigation report from the police’s thunder supervisor about the death of six migrant workers from Edisha on Agriculture Andhra Pradesh.
Workers allegedly died of electrocution on July 30 while working on a shrimp farm.
Acting on the petition submitted by Radhakanta Tripathy, a civil rights lawyer, NHRC has asked SP thunder to submit a report within four weeks.
Migrant workers from Ringgada and Gajapati districts are Rammurthy, Kiran, Manoj, Pandabo, Mahendra and Naveen.
Tripathy alleged that the incident occurred due to the negligence of the Department of Energy and the absence of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
He also blamed factory officials for the incident.
The Commission has heard the petition on July 31 and issued a notification to Andhra officials to investigate this case and provide compensation for the next relatives of the deceased.
In response, SP Guntur in the investigation report stated that the incident occurred at 7am on July 30 while the workers were sleeping under shrimp farming.
Another report from the Guntur government said the next KIN from the deceased had received each RS 3 lakh respectively as EX Gratia from the Minister of Funds of the Minister of the Minister for Humanitarian Land.
The owner of the shrimp farm also paid Rs 5 Lakh each to the next victim’s relatives.
Furthermore, the Chairperson of the Odisha Minister also paid RS 2 lakh each to the relatives of workers.
NHRC considers a report stating that each RS 10 Lakh has been paid to the next relative of the deceased.
The police have submitted a memo in a local court to change the case of 174 CRPC (police to ask and report suicide) to the 304A part of the IPC (causing death due to negligence) against agricultural owners and managers.
