Kolkata: Oral vaccines against covids can come true in the near future.
ICMR-NICED based in Kolkata has proposed a research project to develop oral vaccines, which said many scientists and health experts can become the next generation covid vaccine.
The proposal has been submitted to the biotechnology department under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
“The proposed project will work with German companies.
We have sent our research proposal.
After being elected and funded, we can start working on it,” said Director Niced Niced Shanta Dutta.
All vaccines in current inoculation drives in India, and elsewhere, injections and researchers have begun to work to develop nasal spray vaccines against viruses.
“Oral vaccine, if it is proven effective, it will be much easier in terms of giving and reach the mass.
So it’s good that the initiative is being brought to develop the same step to develop the nose vaccine,” said the Santanu Tripathi clinical trial specialist, a former head of clinical pharmacology and Experimental in tropical medical schools.
Health experts say the Covid-19 virus will not immediately disappear.
Even if the pandemic is complete, it will continue to stay in the endemic stage and people will need a periodical protection vaccine.
“In addition to efficacy, receipts are very important when it comes to successful mass inoculation drives.
The striking example is a polio vaccine, which becomes more acceptable and the drive gets very necessary momentum when oral drops are introduced,” said Dipika Sur, a former scientist with ICMR , Apart from the polio vaccine, several other vaccines that took off in syringe but were then developed into oral versions including vaccines against Rotavirus, thyroid, cholera and adenovirus.
“Some vaccines that were originally developed in the form of injection already have an oral version.
While developing oral vaccines against Covid are a great initiative, oral routes to manage it can be a challenge because there are limited data available on oral transmissions,” said the clinical research director Hospital and Academic Subhrojyoti Bhowmick.
Niced proposals have been selected for presentations.
If the project gets sanctions, the vaccine will be developed in the laboratory and try in the animal first.
“After being agreed and funded, he will undergo all the vaccine development processes and all phases of clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity.
From the laboratory to the market, the vaccine takes five to six years.
Therefore, if everything goes well, we can expect covid vaccines Oral in the near future, “Dutta said.
