PUDUCHERRY: Cyber ​​Puducherry cells on Friday arrested Nigeria Nigeria on charges of imitating an official of the French Embassy and deceived a woman of Rs 5.25 lakh by promising a profitable job at the airport.
The man who was arrested had been identified as Taiwo Adewale Samson, 31, from Lagos in Nigeria.
He was arrested from the territory of Yogyakarta in Bengaluru.
Cybercrime Sleuth Cells said Jasleen Mario, an employee of a private airline, has submitted work abroad on various platforms and received emails from Gerard Mulliez at prospective work on August 4 last year.
He contacted him through the cellphone the next day and collected details about the work.
After convincing his work, the man said a Vianne from the Embassy of the France would contact him.
He received an email from the team on August 6 which claimed to be from the French Embassy in Delhi asking him to pay Rs 36,500 online as a processing fee.
He transferred the amount to the account number mentioned in the email.
He immediately began receiving an email who asked him to pay Rs 64,000 as the IELTS examination fee, Rs 2.64 Lakh as a visa processing fee, RS 87,000 to get an anti-terrorist certificate and Rs 73,400 to get a pass gate.
He paid all online fees of Rs 5.25,400 on various dates in August last year.
He waited for a letter of offer and other documents a few weeks to take jobs abroad.
But he did not receive a bidding letter.
His efforts to establish contact with people, who extend job offers, turned futile.
He filed a complaint with cyber cells.
Cybercrime Cell enrolled the case against unknown people under the 419 section (penalty for cheating with personation) and 420 (cheating and inducing property delivery) from the Indian criminal code and 66-D (penalty to deceive using computer resources using the source Computer power) Information Technology Act, 2000 and arrest foreigners.
They police launched hunting for others involved in crime.
