Coimbatore: The Annur authorities on Tuesday detained four men and captured 1,536 packets (each containing 90 pound ) of spirits and hree bikes from them.
Throughout the nighttime rounds in Sokkampalayam close Annur, authorities intercepted the four, that had been taking 16 cardboard boxes three bikes.
On checking boxes, authorities found liquor values Rs 53,760 within them.
Police detained R Ashok alias Manikandan, 24, K Nagaraj, 40, ” A Venkatesh, 20, most inhabitants of Pathuvampalli close Sulur, also M Velusamy, 45, of Kumarapalayam close Annur.
On interrogation, the accused told authorities that Tirupur-based Gopi and Vinoth had smuggled the spirits packets from Karnataka at a pickup truck and provided to them.
The Annur authorities have made a special group to nab Gopi and Vinoth.
In a different event, PEW authorities from Periyanaickenpalayam unit detained five men and captured 420 bottles of spirits out of them in Dasampalayam close Mettupalayam on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrested were identified as S Azharuddin, 24, C, Mohammed Siddiq, 24, also a motorist, S Srinivasan, 36, also a motorist, S Marimuthu, 32, along with T Sivakumar, 41, an motorist.
Each of the four accused were citizens of Mettupalayam.
Two pickup trucks along with an SUV were also captured from them.
