Nagpur: Only three out of 44 gardens, developed by Nagpur repair trust (NIT) and then brought under NMC, in good condition, while most other people do not have basic facilities such as drinking water facilities, toilets etc., reveal a survey conducted by the team Corporators.
In his report submitted to the Mayor of Dayashankar Tiwari, the Corporators panel, headed by the Chair of the Plantation Consultation Committee of Rajendra Sonkusare, stated that the conditions of the 20 parks average and 21 required a complete makeover.
While most parks don’t even have toilets, drinking water and drainage systems, some don’t have compound walls and playing equipment there found broken.
Toi has highlighted the fate of 179 gardens developed by NIT and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
With the existing 40 staff, the Garden NMC department has faced a severe labor crisis in maintaining its own garden.
The budget provisions for garden maintenance are also not enough.
Under pressure from the city commissioner then Tamaram Mundhe, NMC has taken over 44 gardens from NIT without finding permission from home.
The action has created losses and mayors Sandip Joshi has directed the administration to hand over these parks back to Nit.
Meanwhile, the trust was allegedly stopped maintenance work starting July 5, 2020.
Nit even failed to pay payments to contractors who carry garden maintenance to jam.
This creates hatred among residents of areas where NIT gardens are located.
On the suggestion of MP Nitin Gadkari, it was decided that NMC would keep all the gardens while Nit would maintain a playground.
After this, the NMC House decided to implement the suggestion.
When the Canporators began to face the wrath of people on behalf of poor NIT gardens, this problem was discussed in the NMC general body meeting held on September 8, 2021.
The Committee, consisted of Deputy Chair and BJP Corporator Nishant Gandhi, Roopa Rai, Deepak Wadibhasme, Vandana Bhure, Asha Uike, Manoj Kumar Gawande and Vandana Chandekar, suggested that in addition to the construction of a compound wall, the journey of jogging renovation, putting drainage lines, new water pipes, renovation of guard spaces, toilets, and other structural facilities, playing equipment repairs, green gyms and Provision of new materials is needed.
The panel also recommends that it is necessary to renovate sculptures and murals installed in several parks.
In addition, features such as fountains, yoga warehouses and electrical systems are also in bad conditions and requires immediate attention, the panel is observed.
All of these parks lack maintenance and tenders to point caregivers for these parks need to be invited and expenses that occur in renovation must be included in the revised budget, suggest panels.
The Committee has recommended that the NMC must restore the cost of maintenance, renovation and salary security guards from July 6, 2020 to the date of NIT.
