Keonjhar: Urban Local Body Dhenkanal, Peponjhar and Paradip have received praise in the Best Report of Niti Aayog in the recent city-solid waste management report.
Niti Aayog appreciated the involvement of the community through the Swadaya Group (SHG) in Dhenkanal which changed the waste center to be the center of wealth, adoption of Keonjhar from innovative technology and the involvement of female paradip and transgender groups to make inclusive and sustainable waste management.
“Odisha decentralization management, community participation, and strong practices are highlighted,” the ministerial head office tweeted.
The municipality of Keonjhargarh has received recognition in best practices in “city solid waste management” for the category of technological innovation.
Niti Aayog and the Center for Science and the Environment (CSE) collaborated on this publication featuring the best practices for 10 different fields of waste management in 28 states from 15 countries.
Keonjhar Ashish Thakary collector said, “Based on innovation technology for solid waste management, Niti Aayog has recognized our municipality with the paradip and dhenkanal.” According to official sources, Keonjhar Regency produces around 26.5 tons of waste every day (400 grams per person).
Sixty percent biodegradable waste while 40% non-biodegradable.
From it 15% is plastic, paper 8.5%, 18% glass, 28% domestic waste and sanitation and the remaining 30.5% are non-recycled.
