Kolkata: NKDA has planned to take a pilot project to establish a smart pedestrian sidewalk with a solar paver block which will be integrated with an electric vehicle charging unit in stretching in front of Rabindra Tirtha in a new city.
The authorities have initiated the process to involve the agent to take the project.
It is estimated that RS 9.1 Crore has been pegged for proposed projects that the body must be needed within 120 days or four months.
NKDA officials said the project had been planned to further develop the use of solar energy in the new city.
“Urban land has become more expensive to install solar panels.
Previously, we have installed solar panels and organizing solar plants floating in the body of water and stress have been given to the installation of the roof solar panel.
Now we are exploring if the sidewalk can be used,” said an official NKDA.
Officials say the plan is to use the small portion of the sidewalk to install the solar paver block on the side.
“This technology can be seen in many places abroad.
Solar panels will be integrated with the paver block and will be covered with a type of hardened glass that will not be damaged if one step above it,” said an official.
“Stretching in front of Rabindra Tirtha is one of the busiest junctions.
The plan is to have several EV charging units that will be integrated with the solar paver block for easy availability on the main artery road,” said an official.
The NKDA has developed a 400m service road from Bhor Swapno Park to Mela Ground’s new city with hot spot internet, solar bench, solar tree, ATM Air and Plastic-Laid road.
