Nagpur: Even when the investigation report into a false fraud contract is awaited, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has been hit on charges of other fraud.
Citing information obtained based on RTI Act, Corporator Corporator Sandip Sauhare has accused the Civic Agency obtained by 14 items at a rate of 2 to 26 times higher than market prices.
In one case, 120 liter air conditioner is available on the market for RS8.496 purchased at the RS79,000 level, said Sauhare.
Bogus Contracts Scam, reported the first time by Toi on December 14, involving bill payments without the procurement of stationery and other material.
A contractor prepared a fake contract by forging an official signature, did not supply anything, and sucked NMC money by getting a cleaned bill in the Nexus with the staff of various departments.
In the latest deviations exposed by Sahare, the permanent committee and several other departments buy materials at a much higher cost than the market level.
Sahare said, “Bogus contracts and procurement of materials at very high costs have occurred in NMC for the past 15 years.
I obtained a document based on RTI Act in 2019 about the procurement of various types of materials.
Then, I bought the same material from the market and compare costs .
Stand obtained Rs2.995 executive pens, which are available on the market simply by Rs115.
“Meanwhile, the NMC administration has told the Standing Committee that the latter does not have the power to set up an inquiry to investigate the false contract fraud.
The permanent committee led by Prakash Bhoyar on December 22 gave a resolution to form the committee of three members of its members to investigate all agreed contracts in the past five years.
An NMC official tells the Toi, “We are looking for a legal opinion about the resolution.
The Law Department said the committee still did not have such strength.
Therefore, the committee will not be formed.” On December 17, Commissioner of Radhakrishnan B has formed a seven member committee Led by the Supplementary Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kumar Meena to conduct an investigation and submit a report in seven days.
The committee has not submitted the report.
Meanwhile, the President of the City Congress of Vikas Thakre met the Minister of Urban Development of the State of Eknath Shinde and handed over a memorandum demanding investigation by the state government of Bogus’s deception.
“Fake contracts are not limited to NMC funds.

False contracts also affected this SDRF fund.
Contractors in Nexus with NMC staff suck up the SDRF funds,” he said .
