Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to memo 54 standard buses because the life of this vehicle will expire in February 2022.
“AAPLI bus program manager – Delhi Integrated Multi-Capital Transit System (DIMTS) Ltd – has submitted a proposal to its effect on NMC, “Confirming a senior official from the Department of Transportation.
These buses are part of the central government giving 237 buses under the mission of the National Urban Update Nehru Jawaharlal (JNNURM).
Of these, five buses were discarded after an accidental fire incident.
At present, NMC has a fleet of more than 433 vehicles consisting of 232 standards, 150 MIDI, 45 mini buses and six electric buses, which are obtained from funds allocated by the state government to operate the only ferry-women.
Commissioner of the City of Radhakrishnan B is expected to make decisions about the Steering Committee proposal in the November 9 meeting.
“Every proposal related to any policy decisions related to city bus operations need to be submitted before the transportation committee.
There are no such proposals submitted before the panel,” said Chairman of the Jitendra Kukde Transportation Committee.
The official also revealed that 54 standard buses were proposed to be disposed of operating and showed that the NMC had converted 70 standard diesel-runs to CNG.
In addition, the conversion of 162 buses remaining to CNG is on the card.
Senior officials said that the 70 CNG standard bus has increased five years.
Scapping of 54 buses will reduce the power of the Aapli bus fleet and this can affect smooth operation from city bus services on various routes.
Kukde said: “To throw 54 buses, NMC must replace it with electricity or other eco-friendly vehicles.” The electric bus fee is around RS1.50 Crore and to replace 54 buses, the Civic body will require around RS70 Crore.
With the current financial situation, it will be very difficult for NMC to regulate funds for this.
