Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has refused requests from Mahametro to maintain a vertical garden developed by it on the Metro and Median pillars.
In a letter to Commissioner of Radhakrishnan B, Mahametro said he had completed the Metro Rail construction work from Sitabuldi (Munje Chowk) to Mihan at Wardha Road and Sitabuldi (Munje Chowk) to the Local Metro Station of Nagar at Hingna Road.Ahametro invested Lakh Rupee to develop a vertical garden , Now, it will need around RS5 Lakh for their maintenance for three to four years.
Parks need drip irrigation which will cause water and electricity costs.
In his letter, Mahametro said that if NMC did not take over the green plants developed in the median, the first must be allowed to recover maintenance costs through outsourcing from small advertising in the median.

Senior officials from the NMC garden department said the Civic’s body had refused their request.
“Civic’s body that lacks money has faced difficulties in maintaining a public park throughout the city.
How and from where we will defend the vertical garden Mahametro,” asked the official.
“Mahametro’s request to allow small advertising in the median was also rejected,” said an official from the NMC Ad Department.
The NMC park department has lacked labor and this will increase work pressure.
“Therefore, we refused to accept their requests and vice versa advise them to defend the vertical and median garden through CSR funds from various business homes in the city,” said the official.NMC currently has a median and intersection measuring 39,584 square meters in all cities.
However, due to lack of funds, the Civic body has roamed private companies to maintain the median.
In the civil line, the median is maintained to a certain extent.
But the Civic body has failed to maintain it in other parts of the city.
The patch of variety Square to Janta Chowk has become a dirty stretch without maintenance, the source in the NMC garden department shows.
A spokesman Mahametro said that according to the Maharashtra Municipal Corporate Law was the responsibility of the NMC to protect green plants, so they offered to surrender vertical gardens to civilian bodies.
“However, if they don’t want to do it, they have to give us advertising rights so we get income to defend the garden,” he added.
