Nashik: Following a 30% decline in income in the next fiscal-taking income, Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to break the whip in absent tax.
During the past week, civil administration has cut off water supply 25 consumers who owe more than Rs 25,000 in water taxes.
Civil officials said the drive would continue and take steps during Diwali.
Furthermore, Kota Commissioner Nashik Kailas Jadhav has directed officials to accelerate tax recovery.
“The total water tax contribution is estimated at around Rs 97 Crore.
More than 4,000 absent water tax owe at each RS 25,000; this appears around RS 27 Crore,” NMC official said.
NMC has set a water tax collection target of RS 160 Crore for the financial year, including the current request of 60 crore, but has been able to collect only RS 25 Crore so far.
NMC gets income through taxes on property, water, and other sources through the city planning department.
Civil body income has been affected by covid pandemics.
The Civic body estimates that Rs 1,050 Crore’s revenue from April to September this year, but is able to collect only Rs 750 Crore.
In accordance with officials in knowledge, Rs 300 Crore on other tax arrears are also waiting.
