Nagpur: The Mayor of Dayashankar Tiwari and Commissioner of the City of Radhakrishnan B announced on Tuesday that Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) would seal shops found selling Paris (POP) idol plaster in the city.
“To ensure that the idol pop is not sold anywhere in the city, inspections of shops that sell idols must be accelerated with the help of the carrier of the traditional sculpting association office,” said Mayor.
If there is a store that found to sell pop idols, not just idols, establishments will also be sealed, said Tiwari.
“If needed, police protection will be sought during the trip,” said Commissioner City.
The decision for this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by the mayor and civil heads and was attended by NGO representatives and NMC officials from 10 zones.
Radhakrishnan also directs NMC zonal officials to implement valuable restrictions determined for both, individuals (2ft) and sarvajanic mandals (4ft).
NMC has started the drive of the idol pop seizure from Monday.
In the last two days, the Solid Waste Management Team and Nuisance (NDS) Detection Squad (NDS) (NDS) have confiscated 111 pop idols.
On Tuesday, the second day of the drive, the team won 90 idols after examining 106 stores in five zones – Laxminagar, Dharampeth, Hanuman Nagar and Nehru Nagar.
The NDS team also restored a fine of RS1.21 Lakh from the shop owner.
In the Dharampeth zone, volunteers including those from the Green Vigil Foundation such as the founder of Kaustav Chatterjee, Surabhi Jaiswal, Mehul Kosurkar and Shriya Joge helped the NMC team in identifying pop idols.
The team here confiscated 27 idols and recovered well Rs30,000.
Hanuman Nagar Zone recorded the highest number of violations.
The NDS team here checked 25 shops and confiscated 60 pop idols and restored a fine of RS50,000.
Mangalwari zone also confiscated three pop idols by checking 15 stores.
A fine of RS17,000 fine has recovered from the shop owner.
Nehru Nagar Zone initiated actions against 36 shop owners and recovered well RS14,000.
The Laxmi Nagar Zone team checks 15 stores and enforces a fine of RS10,000 on default.
With regard to Ganesh Utsav, shops that sell idols have been arranged in various places in the city.
However, the previous NMC permit is a must.
“While checking shops, it must be ascertained whether they (shop owners) have NMC permissions or not.
If not, the action must be carried out on the owner of the store concerned,” said Mayor.
