Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has transferred its workforce from the Covid test center to the drive ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ drive, which aims to record all citizens who qualify on November 30.
Although not all RT-PCR swab collection centers are closed, most of the medical staff including those employed under the National Urban Health Mission (NUUHM) have been asked to help members drive the door vaccination team to the door.
Daily testing figures in the district have dropped to an average of 4,700 this month from anywhere between 17,000 and 23,000 during the second wave peak in April-May.
More than half of the daily tests are fast (mouse) antigen tests or carried out in private labs.
This means that the workload of public facilities has drastically reduced to give them the freedom to do other tasks.
Health officials said as testing facilities do not need a lot of personnel, they are being sent for vaccination drives where more workers are needed.
Urban Main Health Center (UPHC) continues to offer RT-PCR tests and antigens that have sufficient stock kits, but some takers.
Some additional centers begin because the large demand in the second wave has been supported by the UPHC or Covid Care Center (CCCS).
