Bhubaneswar: In a big relief, Odisha hasn’t reported one mukorcosis (also called black mushrooms) in the past week.
So far, the country has reported 194 cases of black mushrooms, including 28 deaths.

“Of the 194 cases, 106 patients underwent treatment in various hospitals in the state,” said Mishra.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar has reported 96 black mushrooms so far, almost half of the total state cases.
Pradipta Kumar Parida, Head of the ENT Department at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, said they received a patient on August 14.
“We witnessed a decrease in black mushroom cases in our hospital,” Parida said.
He said about 12 patients had died in the hospital.
“The infection enters their brains.
It is very difficult to save the patient as soon as the fungus enters the brain,” he added.
