Mumbai: The traffic department’s decision to ban the use of breathalyzers and a ban on the New Year’s Eve party only produced 18 cases of drunk driving recorded in Mumbai on Friday.
This figure is the lowest compared to the check conducted on New Year’s Eve in the last five years; As of December 31, 2017, the city has recorded 615 cases of drunk driving.
In Navi Mumbai, 44 drunk drivers were booked on Friday.
However, traffic police, continue to advance with the use of breathalyzers and make cases of 297 individuals.

Police deployed 56 fixed checkpoints and 36 cellular teams.
Personnel posted at the intersection near restaurants, bars and markets to intercept drunk drivers before they could qualify for arterial roads.
Navi Mumbai witnessed a marginal increase in the number of drunk drivers who were intercepted on New Year’s Eve.
While 44 motorists were booked on Friday, the figure was 27 on December 31, 2020.
The majority of Friday cases were in Taloja and Mahape.
