New Delhi: The government has decided as a matter of policy not to mention the caste population besides SCS and STS in a census, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
The State Union Minister for Nityanand Rai’s house also said that in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, seats were provided for SCS and STS in Lok Sabha and in the assembly in the proportion, to their population.
Rai said in the census, caste and tribes that were specifically informed as caste schedules and tribes scheduled to be in accordance with the order of the 1950 constitutional and the constitutional command (scheduled tribes, 1950 (as changed from time to time) mentioned.
“The state government of Maharashtra and Odisha has asked to collect caste details in the upcoming census.
The Indian government has decided as a matter of policy not to mention the caste population other than SCS and STS in the census,” he replied to written questions.
Reply to questions Others, Rai said the government’s intention to conduct a 2021 census was notified in Indian news on March 28, 2019 but because of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the census activity was postponed.
