Thiruvananthapuram: Following complaints about several college management insisting on the dress code of their desires for teachers in higher education institutions, the Ministry of Higher Education issued orders who clarified that insisting on such a dress code could not be maintained and unwanted.
“The government does not prescribe a dress code for teachers at higher education institutions.
Dress style is a personal choice.
Until now, there are no rules that demand a female teacher wearing sari on campus.
The teacher can wear their choice dress as far as it is decent and comfortable,” said Minister of Higher Education R Bindu.
He said the order was released after he received a complaint that some college heads and management tried to disrupt the personal choice of teachers.
“There is no government command that prescribes Saree as the official dress for the teacher,” said the command.
According to the Minister, several college management and certain institutional heads are still trying to enforce clothing codes that are not synchronous with changing times.
This happens despite recurrent clarification issued by the same high education department, he added.
“Women’s teachers at the Higher Education Institution in Kerala have the right to wear their choice dresses.
Efforts to train unnecessary controls on the teacher on behalf of outdated moral ideals cannot be entertained at any cost,” said Bindu.
