New Delhi: The government on Tuesday reaffirmed that had not made a decision to prepare a national list of Indian citizens (NRIC) at the national level.
NRC exercise replication, has been carried out for Assam, for other parts of the country being promised by the BJP in the Election Manifesto for Lok Sabha 2019 polls.
After December 2019 from Citizenshach Amandment Bill (CAA), other BJP Manifesto promises, there is speculation that all- India Nric is also on the card, with some speculating that all Indian residents will be asked to produce documents to build their citizenship documents.
However, the Minister of State for Nityanand Rai’s house has been, as answering written questions on Lok Sabha on Tuesday, clarifying: “Until now, the government has not made a decision to prepare a national list of Indian citizens (NRIC) in the National Level”.
Responding to other queries about the status of the census and a list of national residents (NPR), RAI said the government had decided to renew NPR with the citizenship law, 1955 along with the first phase of the census, 2021.
“Details of demographics and other families and individuals must be updated / collected during The implementation of the NPR update.
There are no documents that must be collected during this exercise.
However, because of the Covid-19 outbreak, NPR renewal and other related field activities have been postponed, “he said.
Previously, the government had convinced parliament that it did not make a decision to prepare Pan-India Nrat.
This is part of the government’s reply to the question on March 17, 2021.
Preparation of the National List of Citizens (NRIC) is regulated by the provisions of Part 14a of the National Citizenship Law, 1955 and Citizenship (Citizens Registration and National Identity Card Problems) Rules, 2003.
Parts 14A from citizenship law, 1955 provides registration of each Indian citizen and NRIC maintenance.
This provision was included in the citizenship law, 1955 by the citizenship law (amendment), 2003 which came into force on December 3, 2004.
NRIC’s proposal will include details of all Indian citizens.
