No More lockdown for Illegal liquor brewers

Thiruvananthapuram: The quantity of hooch captured from the excise department officials at the district suggests that perhaps not all of tipplers were remaining’dry’ through the lockdown.
The excise officers have captured a total of 200.5 minutes of spurious liquor through the entire month of May.
In contrast, just 55 minutes of hooch was captured in the last month.
According to older excise officers at the subject, there was just a little gain in the complete number of instances recorded in May.
This meant the illegal liquor brewers went to an overdrive to improve productivity.
In May, the complete quantity of Abkari Act cases listed were 119 while at April the corresponding amount was 109.
The difference in volume of scrub (the fermented item in which soul is dried ) captured from both months would show the brewers were hoping to meet large demand.
In April, the quantity of wash captured during the raids was only 765 minutes, in May the amount seized was 15,865 litres.
Apart from the 200 minutes of spurious spirits, the officers captured 131.95 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) which was intended for bootlegging and 277.91 minutes of spurious IMFL, largely smuggled from different nations, in May.
Deputy excise commissioner, Thiruvananthapuram, N Ashok Kumar stated that bulk of captures made in the past month were following May 8 if the lockdown came in to effect.
“This usually means that the requirement only lurks after the closing of pubs and government-run liquor outlets,” he explained.
The officer stated that although the section was maintaining strict vigil, they’ve fortified the vigil by establishing a unique drive throughout the state named Operation Lockdown below the directions of excise commissioner S Ananthakrishnan.
Below this exceptional driveway, the excise officers could join hands together with local authorities to conduct raids in each area.
This is anticipated to serve as a deterrent and reduce the unlawful action of brewing.
Kumar added that something discovered during the most recent lockdown was that many new offenders were there one of the detained while throughout the lockdown this past year, it had been largely habitual offenders that got arrested.
The outcome is represented in the information of captures created in May 2020.
Only 95 minutes of hooch and 4,800 litres of clean were captured in May this past year.
“All these newcomers are mainly labourers who lost jobs due to the lockdown,” Kumar explained.
Throughout the month of May, the division had seized 662kg of ganja from the district.
Including two important captures of 400kg of ganja from Kattakkada on May 7 and 250kg of ganja seized from Kuzhivila on May 8.
