Moscow: Nothing survived after the plane carrying 28 people fell in the far east of Russia on Tuesday, Russian news agencies said rescue officials.
TurboProp Antonov An-26 twin engine is on the way from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky’s Regional Capital to Puna, a village north of the Kamchatka Peninsula, when losing contact with air traffic control, the emergency ministry said.
Quoting sources, Interfax reported that the plane was considered to have hit a cliff when she was preparing to land in poor visibility conditions.
The Russian civil aviation authority confirmed that the plane accident site had been found after the Emergency Ministry sent a helicopter and had mobilized the team on the grounds to find a lost plane.
There were 22 passengers and six crew, the ministry said.
Olga Mokhireva, Mayor of Palanana, is among the passengers, the Body Tasses quoted local authorities.
The weather in the area was cloudy when the plane was lost, Russian news agencies reported.
Tass said the plane involved has been operating since 1982.
Russian aviation safety standards have increased in recent years but accidents, especially those involving aging aircraft in distant areas, not infrequently.
The type of Soviet-era aircraft, which is still used for military and civilians in several countries, has been involved in dozens of deadly crashes since entering service around 50 years ago.
Antonov-28, the same aircraft, slammed into the Kamchatka forest in 2012 in an accident that killed 10 people on the same route.
The investigator said the two pilots were drunk during the accident.
