New Delhi: The Delhi Prisons Department currently does not have staff inmates or prisons that have a positive Covid-19, officials said on Sundays.
However, they said the right behavior of Covid was still strictly followed.
“Although there are no cases of Koronavirus infection in prison today, the prison authority takes all precautions.
The appropriate behavior of Covid, including the social distance among the inmates, is strictly followed.
New detainees were initially isolated and then shifted to the barracks,” said Director General (Prison) Sandeep Goel.
The Prisops department launched a Covid vaccination drive for inmates in the age of 45-plus ages on March 18, while inoculation inmates in the 18-44 age group began on May 18.
As on Saturday, a total of 1,212 inmates above the age of 45 years and 3,157 under 45 years in Tihar prison were vaccinated against viral diseases.
In Rohini prison, 132 inmates above 45 years and 600 under 45 years have been given a vaccine.
In Mandoli prison, 483 inmates over 45 years old and 1,794 under 45 years were vaccinated, according to data.
Since March, around 400 cases of Coronavirus have been reported among prison prisoners in the national capital and eight of them have given up on this disease.
Among members of the prison staff, more than 200 had been infected with a virus since March.
More than 2,800 prisoners were released in temporary guarantees or emergency conditional liberation from three Delhi prisons, including Tihar, to reduce prison during the second wave of pandemic, officials said.
These include prisoners who were released last year and then surrendered without a detrimental report and also new prisoners who qualified for temporary guarantees or emergency liberation in the view of the pandemic under the criteria set by a high-powered committee at high-powered committees at the meeting.
On 4 and 11 May last year, around 5,500 underage prisoners and 1,184 inmates were released on temporary guarantees and emergency conditional liberation from three Delhi – Tihar, Rohini and Mandoli prisons – during the locking imposed to curb the spread of infection.
The first Covid-19 kasing was reported in Rohini Jail on May 13 last year.
Two positive covid prisoners from Jail Mandoli – both senior citizens – died on June 15 and July 4 last year.
Officials said that since the Pandemic outbreak in March last year, the prison department remained vigilant and instructed his staff not only maintaining cleanliness and social distance between themselves but also spreading awareness about infection in three prison complexes.
