Assam’s Higher Education Director, Dharma Kanta Mili, told TI that the 75% reservation formula had been passed by the Committee established by the State Education Department to streamline the receipt process.
“We believe that no students deserve to be denied in,” Mili said.
He, however, agreed that a number of students might not get out of the country for further study because of the Covid situation and this could put more pressure on universities in Assam.
Officials of the Ministry of Education said that around 13,500 students in the state passed the CBSE class XII Council exam this year, while under AHSEC, around 2.47 lakh students cleared the exam.
When contacted, the Director of the Northeast CBSE regional office, KK Choudhury, said, “The Assam government has the freedom to formulate their acceptance policy.”
