Agra: Since independence, there are no candidates who won the election of assembly from the ETMADPUR seat from Agra Regency.
However, compared to men’s candidates, the number of female candidates also remains low.
The Etmadpur seat appeared in 1951.
It was named ETMADPUR – Agra East.
Ahead of the election of the 1957 assembly, Agra East was separated from the ETMADPUR seat.
Following restrictions made by the Election Commission, the constituency was divided into North and South Etmadpur.
In the election of the assembly of 1974, several parts of the north and southern seats were adjusted to the constituency and other elections carried out in the ETMADPUR seat.
Of the 15 elections in seats since independence, for seven elections there were no female candidates.
In the 2017 election, the Jamajwadi Party (SP) lowered a female candidate.
Rajabeti has secured 43,925 votes and remains third.
This time, Congress has provided a ticket to women’s party workers Shivani Singh Baghel.
“I got support from all parts of society.
Under Priyanka Gandhi’s leadership, I am sure it will be the first MLA woman from the Etmadpur seat,” he said.
BJP has won the ETMADPUR seat for the first time in the 2017 assembly election.
The RAM Pratap Singh Party candidate has defeated Dharmpal Singh BSP with more than 47,000 votes.
Last week, Dharmapal joined BJP and was given a party ticket for the contest from the same seat.
Sarvesh Baghel will represent BSP from here.
In particular, Veteran politician Chandra Bhan Maurya has a selected record as MLA five times from the Etmadpur seat.
He first won the election in 1977.
He lost the election in 1980.
In the next four elections – in 1985, 1989, 1991 and 1993 – he appeared as a winner.
During this time, he changed four political parties, including the Janata party, Lok Dal, Janta Dal and SP.
