Nodded for land rights for slum areas in 5 city bodies

Bhubaneswar: State Cabinet on Friday cleanses procedures, paving the way for amendments to the Odisha Municipal Corporation Law, which will help provide land rights to slum households in five city companies.
Land rights in the corporate area – Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Religious, Sambalpur, and Rourkela – will be given in line with the rights of land given to slum residents in 109 small cities (city and NACS) under Odisha land rights for Dwellers Law, 2017 , under the guard mission.
The move assumed significance considering the upcoming urban local agency polls scheduled next year.
“Under the guard mission, we have so far provided land rights to nearly 1.75 lakh slums living in 109 cities and NACS.
We will give land rights similar to the residents of slums in the city company with the amendments needed in law Invite, “said State Housing and the Minister of Urban Development Pratap Jena.
“Nine Lakh people, part of more than 1.90 lakh households, who live in 938 slums in five city companies will benefit because of this decision,” Jena said.
“Announced by regulations will not only ensure the rights to slums but also make households qualify to take advantage of the benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Beware of Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U).
We will take steps to give land rights to residents The slum in the next six months, “said Minister.
Ordonance also has the provision that wherever it is possible to provide ownership rights (cheap houses), city companies will grant it.
But if it is not possible, the corporation will have the flexibility of giving rights to slum household land there, on the ground to 4 square meters with certain conditions.
Although the government has in 2017 changing city corporate laws to provide ownership rights to slums in the corporate area, there is no significant progress that can be made about the awarding of property rights for various reasons.
The Cabinet also approved the proposal to release interest payments for premium payments delayed by RS 14.71 Crore to the Development Authority of Bhubaneswar (BDA) and the Odisha State Housing Council (OSHB) on government land allocated for the development of housing and commercial projects.
This initiative will benefit 5,235 allotte (3,984 with respect to OSHB and 1,251 related to BDA) of 16 projects.
