Vadodara: The Medical College Baroda has received a nod for new postgraduate courses in radiation oncology.
“We have received permission from the National Medical Commission to start MD radiation oncology where two students will be accepted in post-graduation courses every year,” said Dr.
Ranjan Aiyer, the SSG hospital medical supervisor managed by the state.
“Radiation oncology is an oncology sub-specialization.
This is basically to treat cancer through radiation therapy,” he said.
He added that after the Gujarat government gave a grant sanction around Rs 20 Crore, the radiation oncology department is now equipped with advanced linear accelerators.
“Linear accelerator is a sophisticated equipment that relieves the burden of the tumor and ensures targeted tumor cell killings.
At the same time, it’s a normal network spare parts around it.
This makes linear accelerators superior than other machines available,” he said.
