Noida: A 30-year-old man who drove with a SUV with the pretext of taking a vehicle for a test drive in the phase-2 Noida area last week, was arrested, police said on Saturday.
In his complaint, Sachin Tyagi, a resident of Sector 82 Noida, claimed that he placed an ad on OLX to sell his SUV last week.
The defendant, was identified as Nitesh Bharadwaj of Sector 168, called him the next day and asked for a test drive.
Tyagi easily agreed and asked him to come to Bhangel on January 25.
As agreed upon, Bharadwaj reached Bhangel and both then went for a test drive.
After traveling about 5 km, the defendant told him that he was satisfied with the condition of the SUV and improved the agreement for Rs 6 Lakh, “said a police officer.
In sector 110, Bharadwaj stop the SUV on the side of the road and allegedly asking Tyagi to take over the steering wheel so he can make payments in advance of rs 10,000 and leave.
“When Tyagi went down to come to the driver’s side, the defendant pressed the gas pedal and disappeared in a while,” he said.
Tyagi, who works as an officer at a college in Bhangel, first tried to contact Bharadwaj but the cellphone number was turned off.
He immediately turned number 112 and told the police about the incident.
The team was formed and the search for the suspect began, the officer said.
In his complaint, a pine was registered against unknown people below 420 (cheating) and 406 ( criminal violation of trust) IPC.
“We scan several CCTV cameras along the route and finally italys l arrested the suspect from Jjaka Village in Sector 93.
During the interrogation, he revealed that he was unemployed and therefore he had committed this crime, “the officer said.
The vehicle recovered from his ownership.
Bharadwwah is produced in front of the court and sent to Judicial guard.
