Noida: A man has been captured by Gautam Budh Nagar police for allegedly deceiving retired army officers nearly Rs 6 lakh, the police said on Monday.
The defendant has been identified as Chetan Prakash Upadhyaya, a resident of Bikaner in Rajasthan.
“We have received complaints from the Col AK Rajpal (REPD), a resident of the Noida 29 sector in August 2021.
In the complaint, the victim stated that he had received a text message on his telephone which stated that his SMS service had been blocked..
The next message states that Colonel must dial the number given to get the service continued, “said Ranvijay Singh, Deputy Deputy Police Commissioner (ADCP) Noida.
The victim then contacted the number and Prakash made him download a suspicious cellular app.
“Colonel was made to make RS 11 online payments to recharge.
Prakash made a caller engaged and managed to hacked the phone and gained access to his bank account.
He then cheatedly attracted a number of Rs 6 lakh from the Bank Colonel account,” said Singh.
Immediately after the complainant realized that he had been cheated, he reached the 20 police station and submitted a case.
“Following a complaint, a registered case against unknown people under Section 420 (cheating) and section 66 D Its action.

The police have recovered five debit cards, five credit cards and one cellphone from ownership.
